The Dermalight 80 is a well designed and beautifully made phototherapy unit for spot treatment of Psoriasis, particularly for treating scalp psoriasis and Vitiligo. It is very portable and lightweight, and has a wide treatment area.
The comb attachment on the Dermalight 80 has rounded bristles, which are gentle on the scalp, and deliver the UV light directly through the hair to where it is needed most. The removable comb attachment can also be used as a distance guard to treat areas other than the scalp, or the Dermalight 80 may be used with it removed.
We recommend that you consult your dermatologist for full treatment advice before use.
The Dermalight 80 uses NB-311 narrowband UVB lamps, which is the safest and most effective wavelength for home phototherapy available. It features a separate timer to alow you to monitor your treatment times and also a pair of goggles.
The Dermalight comes with a 4 year warranty as well as a 1000 operation hours bulb warranty, and a robust carry case for safe storage.
Psoriasis is a non-contagious disorder which affects the skin and joints. It commonly causes red scaly patches to appear on the skin. The patches, called psoriatic plaques, are areas of inflammation and excessive skin production. Skin rapidly accumulates at these sites and takes on a silvery-white appearance.
Plaques frequently occur on the skin of the elbows and knees, but can affect any area including the scalp and genitals. In contrast to eczema, psoriasis is more likely to be found on the extensor aspect of the joint. The disorder is a chronic recurring condition which varies in severity from minor localised patches to complete body coverage.
Vitiligo or leukoderma is a chronic skin disease that causes loss of pigment, resulting in irregular pale patches of skin. It occurs when the melanocytes, cells responsible for skin pigmentation, die or are unable to function. The precise cause of vitiligo is complex and not fully understood. There is some evidence suggesting it is caused by a combination of auto-immune, genetic, and environmental factors.
